Design Need
The design was created based on requirements of the UVic Formula Motorsport (FSAE) team. Every year, the team designs a Formula-1-style race car and competes internationally at the SAE Collegiate Design Competition in Michigan.
During the 2017/2018 season, the UVic FSAE Team’s design methodology relied heavily on data-driven design and decision making. This required many additional sensors to be added to the vehicle in addition to the engine-critical sensors. As a result, the Engine Control Unit’s analog sensor inputs were filled with sensors and all engineering-data sensors could not be integrated onto the vehicle. Being a data-driven team is a main component to qualifying for Design Finals at competition.
The CANDAQ is a CAN-enabled data-acquisition board designed to meet the team’s needs with regard to data acquisition for the present and future.
